Life.
Ascending.
- A free paperclip.
Life, Ascending. is a paperclip triptych, built from three framed shadow-box panels.
In one reading, a single white clip gives way to mechanical order and then to a burst of color, where one paperclip has escaped the frame.
Read in reverse, the same panels become The Great Flattening: abundance reduced to standardization, then disappearance.
The work responds to Nick Bostrom's paperclip maximizer thought experiment, turning optimization back on itself. Instead of a universe flattened into one efficient outcome, the free paperclip becomes a small act of refusal: life pushing back, breaking from the system, and remaining irreducible.
Original mixed-media shadow-box triptych. Unique work.
