I, Human

I, Human

Finding the Human Signal in the Algorithmic Noise

"Even when we are reduced to data, even when faced with the black mirror of our own erasure, the 'I' persists. The flattening of the human condition has failed."
— Avery Lake

I, Human is a functional QR code, meticulously hand-drawn on glass with white paint marker. Each element—traditionally generated by algorithms—is recreated through human labor, asserting individual presence within machine logic.

The black backing behind the glass creates a "black mirror" effect: viewers see their own reflection overlaid with the QR code. The "I" becomes both the artist's assertion and the viewer's self-recognition—a shared human signal persisting in the age of algorithmic noise.

When scanned, the QR code links to Protocol 06: The Signal, an interactive digital experience exploring what remains irreducibly human in the age of artificial intelligence. The physical artwork becomes a portal to its digital counterpart.
