Abbotsford artist puts music to digital journey with sophomore album

The Signal is more than just Avery Lake's new album. It's also the musical accompaniment to an interactive online experience that helps people find human moments in an increasingly algorithmic world.

This web experience, titled The Digital Audit of the Human Condition, consists of eight "protocols" that each explore a different digital behaviour.

"Our digital lives are not separate from our 'real' lives. They are woven together. The Digital Audit takes the ordinary actions we perform online – pausing, scrolling, clicking, liking – and holds them up for examination. Not to condemn them, but to find the beauty and meaning that exists even within the noise."

While participating in each of the protocols, a track from The Signal will play, creating an immersive and meditative environment.

"Each protocol mirrors something we do every day online," said Lake. "But beneath the surface, each one asks a deeper question about existence itself."

This new album and interactive online experience come one year after Lake made his musical debut with the album Singular Dust.
